Pelargonium  peltatum    

A beautiful trailing pelargonium with attractive leaves and flowers. The leaves are slightly fragrant, rounded, fleshy and slightly succulent with a dark circular zone in the centre. The flowers can vary in colour from pastel shades of white, pink or pale purple & each flowering stalk has about 2-9 flowers. The attractive foliage can be included in flower arrangements and the flower petals can be used to create a bluish-grey dye on various textiles. P. peltatum is a trailing slightly succulent plant that likes to trail through other shrubs or trees and is ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes, medium sized pots or planted next to trees or trellis.

Pelargonium peltatum is a trailing slightly succulent plant that likes to trail through other shrubs or trees and grows to about 200 cm (78 inches) in length, the leaves resemble a ivy leaf which are rounded & fleshy with a dark zone in the centre, the flowers are of pastel shades of white, pink or pale purple in colour & each flowering stalk contains about 2-9 flowers.

The leaves of P. peltatum has medicinal properties, the sap from the leaves can be taken for a sore throat and the leaves when grinded into a paste can be applied to scratches,light burns & wounds as an antiseptic.

growing conditions
This plant is native to South Africa in the Eastern and Western Cape where it grows in succulent shrub land and in coastal areas which has Summer & Winter rainfall. Pelargonium peltatum prefers well drained sandy/loam soil in full sun and is best planted in hanging baskets and medium sized pots.
