A striking pelargonium with long elegant stems and dark green deeply divided leaves, the flowers are white to pale pink flowers with larger upper petals and dark veins that resemble a butterfly in form on long peduncles also known as the butterfly bush. Pelargonium longicaule is a low growing slightly woody trailing shrublet that grows up to 50 cm /20 inches and dark green leaves which have a reddish tint. The name longicaule is derived from the Latin word ‘longus’ meaning long and ‘caulis’ meaning stem, this refers to the long stems of this plant. It prefers sandy loam soil conditions in full sun to part shade and is ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes and small-medium sized pots.
Pelargonium longicaule is a low growing trailing shrub-let with long stems and grows up to 50 cm (20 inches),the dark green finely divided leaves have a reddish tint with elegant white to pale pink flowers that resemble a butterfly.
This plant is native to South Africa in the South Western Cape where it grows in sand dunes,sandstone and coastal areas which has winter rainfall.
Pelargonium longicaule prefers sandy/loam soil in full sun to part shade. It is ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes or in small-medium sized pots.
